Tollington Park were looking to start the year as they meant to go on - with a win. Leytonstone Elim had made drastic improvements to last season, already winning more games at the half way stage than in the entire season last year. Tollington Park played with Tony and Trevor at the back, with James returning to a more familiar position in attack. Goalkeeper Noel was required to play his first outfield game in 4 years due to some last minute drop outs and Stuart played up front where he was able to lead the team in defending from the top.
The game started and it was a scrappy affair with both teams giving the ball away in the final third. TP began to control the game and forced a save from the opposition goalie with Stuart having a crack from 25 yards. Leytonstone conceeded some early free kicks in and around the box and Arsan's deliveries were causing problems with Tony the main threat in the air.
TP took the lead midway through the half when there was a nice through pass wide by James to Dwayne. He crossed in but the defence failed to clear and Ferris smashed in from the edge of the box. This gave TP a lift and allowing them to hold onto possession and build. Arsan was doing a superb job holding and intercepting the opposition counter attacks. Steve then had to make a good save when a lob looked to catch him off his line but he recovered to tip the ball over his bar.
At Half time a change was made tactically with Stuart brought back in midfield as the management felt there was too much space in the middle of the pitch and the only leytonstone attacks were on the counter. TP wanted to win this game by scoring a second sooner rather than later otherwise it could have become a back to the wall job. James was given a free role between Ferris and both excelled in the partnership with Ferris drifting across the back four and James playing cute passes with vision.
TP began the half under pressure with Leytonstone keeping possession in the left back area, forcing throw ins and crosses which Tony and Trevor dealt with comfortably. Steve didn't have much to do in terms of saves meaning the following save was even more impressive. A Leytonstone winger was through on goal and Steve forced him wide, the cross came back and looked destined for the corner but Steve made a top save blocking low.
TP grabbed the second goal against the run of play with James latching onto a loose ball and volleying into the corner. This killed Leytonstone's hope and TP began to be ruthless, hitting them on the berak. Dwayne ran down the right, crossed in and Jesse slid home the third goal. Ferris made it four finishing a delightful move. A ball forward was laid off to Stuart but a superb touch from James, Stuart played a through ball between two defenders for Ferris to run through and he lashed the ball into the top corner.
Substitute Calvin started and finished the move for the fifth, sprinting onto a Dwayne's third assist of the morning, and slotting the ball under the keeper. The ref was called into action as a wild, two footed tackle came in on Dwayne from a Leytonstone full back, fortunatley missinng both the ball and Dwayne, the ref admitting after the game he should have sent him off. But Fabien dealt with the situation well and calmed the player down. Stuart scored his first goal for the club, sprinting forwards in the dying stages to sidefoot the sixth to complete a great start to the year.

KICC 0 - 3 Tollington Park
TP ran out 3-0 victors with a convincing performance against KICC, ending a run of four consecutive defeats. Noel started in goal with Tony and Trevor continuing at centre back after some solid performances. James and Michael were the full backs. Dwayne and Arsan played on the wings, supporting Nat and Ferris up front, with Ian partnering Calvin in central midfield.
TP started the game tentatively, allowing KICC the majority of possession, however, they were unable to capitalise on this.
TP grew in confidence after the early exchanges, and it was then that they opened the scoring with a goal against the run of play. A through ball was collected by Nat just inside the box and he turned his marker, clipping a tidy finish into the top corner with the outside of the boot.
A chance to stretch the lead fell to Ferris who shot over from the edge of the box after being slipped in. As the half went on, Noel was called into action and made a number of good saves.
Towards the end of the first half, TP started taking more possession by closing down better, this was led by Ian who put in an energetic performance at central midfield, and was eventually substituted by Gus moments before the interval.
TP began the second half well, holding onto possession and playing some good football. The mentality had changed from early on in the game, with much more controlled passing. One particular improvement was from the two strikers, who did much better playing the way they were facing and holding up the ball. This culminated in TP doubling their lead early in the second half with a sliced shot from Arsan falling to Ferris who blasted into the roof of the net from 6 yards.
There was no let up in performance, and TP dominated possession. A third goal was added when a through ball from Arsan was latched onto by Ferris who slid the ball past the on-rushing keeper from the edge of the box.
Stuart came on for Dwayne at right midfield, with Jesse coming on for Michael for the last 20 minutes.
TP held on to the 3-0 lead until the final whistle, keeping their first clean sheet of the season, to complete a convincing display.

Tower Hamlets 3 - 0 Tollington Park
Back to the league and Tollington were looking to get their first win in three games against the league leaders. The pitch had frozen pre match and the conditions were slippery.
TP dominated the early stages keeping the ball and hustling the opposition into mistakes. Tony and David connecting well with headers to clear their lines and Dwayne organising the offside trap.
TP had chances to take the lead. First Ferris was through on goal but his shot was well saved. Stuart then had a shot from distance as the goal keeper made a sliced clearance but the ball drifted wide. Ferris then had two more chances, first played through by Gus but his shot went wide. The Tower Goalkeeper made another mistake in kicking and Ferris was through, choosing to take the shot early but the goalkeeper saved comfortably.
Tony then pushed up for a corner and headed wide after defensive mistakes but Tower. At the other end, Steve didn't have too much to do until Peter Crouch smashed a shot from distance which almost broke the bar.
Tower then took the lead when a shot came in and was saved by Steve but the rebound was slotted in by Crouch. TP's throw went straight to the opposition and Tower punished them, a winger with an excellent touch to take the ball around Tony and one-on-one with Steve, smashed the ball home.
In the second half it was more of the same as Mes and Ferris continued to chase and hustle the defence, prowling for errors. TP had a chance to pull one back when Calvin was through, cutting down the left, but he chose to cross rather than shoot and the defender cleared. TP then played a short corner and Gus whipped the ball in and Tony put a free header wide.
A long throw from Dwayne was flicked on by Calvin and David rose between two defenders to head wide. As TP began to push on, Tower began to press on the counter attack and had a couple of one on ones which Steve saved. Steve then kept TP int he game as Crouch cut down the left and smashed his shot near post but Steve saved again.
Tower were then rewarded with a penalty when stuart clipped an onrushing forward, who stepped up and sent Steve the wrong way.
TP continued to press and almost scored through Jesse. Arsan's corner was played into Tony, who headed the ball back into the box and Jesse headed over in the 6 yard box. Tony almost pulled a goal back when he cut in from the left and with Calvin screaming for the ball in the middle, he chose to shoot but unfortunately his shot was well saved, as well as the rebound the goalkeep somehow keeping the ball out.

DC United 3-2 Tollington Park
DC United, a new team to the league, were enjoying a good start to their season and Tollington Park were looking to spoil that on a narrow pitch.
TP kept up their recent habit of conceeding early on when a mistake between David and Owen allowed an onrushing winger the smash the ball past Noel in goal. TP soon equalised when Calvin slotted the ball into the far corner. Johnny started to get stuck in and put in a crunching tackle uplifting the team. TP began to press, uplifted by that tackle with Max having a shot just wide.
After the break, Ian moved into the midfield with the view of trying to closed down the space. TP began to press and were rewarded with a penalty kick after Calvin was brought down from behind. Gus stepped up and the keeper guess correctly, saving and pushing the penalty kick away.
DC United gained momentum from this and started attacking in number and re-took the lead from a corner, a defender jumping highest and thumping a header into the roof of the net. However TP refused to lie down and equalised through Gus, calmly side footing the ball into the empty net after some good play by Calvin and Johnny. Late on in the game there was DC broke Tollington Hearts as a striker pounced on a mistake by Jesse to hit home.

Walthomstow Parish 2 - 4 Tollington Park
TP game in high spirits following a good victory against Harmony the previous week.
However, they went behind early on due to some sloppy defending by David who missed his header and the striker slotted a half volley across Noel into the corner of the net.
TP were soon level as a penalty was awarded by the ref as the ball flicked off a Parish defender’s boot and onto his hand. Tony scored his first goal for the blues, sending the keeper the wrong way with a powerful penalty…..were you watching Arsan?
Arsan and James began to dominate the midfield aerially and challenged for every ball. They were working well as a partnership and were well organised, playing slightly deeper. Parish looked certain to score when a ball bobbled inn the area and was struck smartly by a winger but debutant Noel made a stunning double save to keep Parish out/ The second goal was a result of a superb passage of play. Noel play a goal kick short to Owen and TP began to stroke the ball across the back line to Dwayne. He knocked the ball infield to James who passed wide to Chris on the left. Chris knocked a high ball into Tony who nodded the ball onto Chris, who ran on, cut the ball back to James, who sprayed a marvellous ball wide to Dwayne to cross in and find a parish defender who scored in his own goal. Owen almost created a third when he ran past three players and honestly stayed on his feet when he could have gone down in the box, but he was tackled.
TP started the second half with James playing a long ball to Jesse down the right and he forced an early throw in. TP brought Johnny on and the fresh legs almost resulted in a third goal as he got on the end of Tony’s cross to head wide. TP got their third goal from substitute Johnny, who lobbed the keeper with a screamer from 35 yards with the outside of his right foot.
Tony quickly added a forth when he ran through one on one to toe poke in off the post for his second goal. Chris then had a goal disallowed for offside and soon after, TP were caught on the break. Gareth had a shot charged down and Parish broker with both TP centre backs upfield. Their substitute smashed the ball past Noel from just inside the area.
